Digital water management for a climate-resilient Mekong: IWMI at the 4th Mekong-Korea International Water Forum
How can digital tools help Mekong countries stay ahead of floods, droughts and shifting rainfall?
That question was at the heart of the 4th Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF), held on 1–2 October 2026 at The Westin Josun Seoul under the theme “Climate Resilience through Digital Water Management in the Mekong Region.” Hosted by Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and K-water and organized by the Korea-Mekong Water Center (KOMEC), the forum brought together government delegations from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, development partners and Korean water companies.

At the Water Technology Exhibition, IWMI presented our Climate Resilience Operation Platform (CROP). CROP turns AI-downscaled climate data into decision support for three users: farmers in the field, watershed managers and policymakers. We also showed our Integrated Watershed Monitoring Platform (IWMP) and IoT data architecture for real-time water level, flow and weather monitoring.
At the afternoon Business Roundtable, we met Mekong government agencies one-on-one to match their water management needs with practical digital solutions.
What we hope comes next: pilot projects that take climate-informed, data-driven water management from the forum floor to Mekong river basins and irrigation schemes.
Working on water security or climate adaptation in the Mekong region? Let’s connect and explore how we can work together.
